Operational Overview
You have completed the US Silica Dust foundation. This course applies that knowledge to rail infrastructure work specifically, and it starts with a genuine regulatory nuance worth getting right.
OSHA's own guidance lists setting, laying and repair of railroad track as a construction-type silica exposure activity. That means the concrete sleeper cutting, drilling and masonry work covered in this course falls under the Construction standard, 29 CFR 1926.1153, not the General Industry standard covered in your foundation course, even though you work for a railroad rather than a construction contractor. OSHA's own jurisdiction over railroads is limited to the tracks, but it does genuinely reach that work.
You will also work through 1926.1153's distinctive Table 1 task-based compliance option, a control mechanism unique to the Construction standard that does not exist under 1910.1053.
