HAVS Advanced: Vibration Risk Management and Compliance — Rail (Canada)

You have completed the national HAVS foundation. This course builds on it directly, applying that knowledge to the tools and working conditions specific to rail maintenance.

Rail work has a regulatory quirk worth knowing from the outset. Where a construction worker's HAVS protections depend heavily on which province they happen to be working in, most rail workers do not face that same variability. Interprovincial railways cross provincial boundaries by definition, which places the great majority of Canadian rail maintenance work under federal jurisdiction rather than provincial law. This course explains what that means in practice, and the narrow exception where it does not apply.

You will also work through the specific exposure profile of rail maintenance tools, from tampers to rail grinders, and the unique pressure of the possession window, the limited time a crew has track access before service resumes.
