Noise Advanced: Rail
Operational Overview
Noise is one of the most persistent hazards in rail maintenance work, present in depot workshops, on track machinery, and in close proximity to passing trains, often for an entire shift. Hearing loss caused by this exposure is permanent, but it is also entirely preventable.
This course builds on general noise awareness to address the specific demands of rail work: the noise sources unique to track maintenance and depot environments, the genuine overlap between WHS audiometric testing and Rail Safety National Law health assessments, and the safety-critical judgement needed to protect your hearing without losing the ability to hear an approaching train or a lookout's warning.
