Operational Overview
Respirable crystalline silica is a hazard that shows up throughout the construction, maintenance, and eventual decommissioning phases of a MENA nuclear facility, generated whenever concrete, aggregate, or shielding material is cut, drilled, or disturbed. The damage it causes is permanent, and it often develops silently over years before a Worker notices anything wrong.
This course builds on general silica awareness to address the specific challenges of a MENA nuclear operating environment: applying a consistent practical exposure benchmark where no single unified regional limit exists, managing respiratory protection alongside genuinely extreme heat, and coordinating silica control with the radiological controls already in place at a nuclear site.
