Industrial Mastery Pathway

Silica Dust Advanced (MENA)

Tier 2

Operational Overview

Silica is one of the most common materials on earth, and one of the most under-recognised hazards on a worksite. Cutting, grinding, crushing or blasting silica-bearing material releases a fraction of dust so fine it bypasses the body's natural defences and lodges deep in the lungs.

Across the MENA region, no single binding numeric standard applies uniformly. Instead, the practical benchmark most widely referenced is the ACGIH Threshold Limit Value for respirable crystalline silica, alongside general duty obligations that apply regardless of which country you are working in. This course builds the foundation every worker needs before moving to any site- or industry-specific silica course.

Instructional Objectives

  • Identify materials and tasks that generate respirable crystalline silica.
  • Explain the health effects and their latency.
  • Apply the practical exposure reference values used across the region.
  • Select and use appropriate engineering controls and RPE.
  • Recognise when a task requires escalation before work continues.
