Noise Advanced: British Columbia Annex

Tier 2

Operational Overview

Most Professionals think noise compliance is one number. In British Columbia it is two.

WorkSafeBC's noise requirements are built around a genuine two-threshold structure. One number starts your hearing conservation programme. A different, higher number triggers mandatory hearing protection and engineering controls. Miss the distinction and you either over-react on every site or under-react on the one that matters.

This short annex sits on top of your Noise Advanced foundation course. It does not repeat the physics of noise or the general hierarchy of controls. It confirms how BC's binding standard actually works in practice.

Instructional Objectives

  • Two Thresholds, Two Duties. Tell the 82 dBA hearing conservation trigger apart from the 85 dBA exposure limit.
  • The Programme in Practice. Know what audiometric testing, notification and recordkeeping actually require.
  • Controls at the Limit. Apply the right response once exposure reaches 85 dBA.
  • Spot the Gap. Read a real site scenario and identify where compliance breaks down.
