HAVS Advanced: Vibration Risk Management and Compliance — Ontario Annex

Tier 2

Operational Overview

You have completed the foundation course covering hand-arm vibration risk management across Canada. This short annex confirms exactly how that foundation applies if you work in Ontario.

Ontario has no hand-arm vibration-specific numeric regulation. The province's own published guidance is explicit that the ACGIH TLV is a recommended benchmark, not a legal limit, which places Ontario in the same general duty category as the federal system, distinct from British Columbia's binding approach.

Instructional Objectives

  • Identify the Occupational Health and Safety Act (Ontario) as the governing framework, and understand why it contains no hand-arm vibration-specific numeric regulation.
  • Apply the ACGIH TLV as the practical working reference in Ontario, understanding its explicitly advisory status here.
  • Recognize what the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development actually expects to see when assessing whether an employer has met the general duty for this hazard.
