Industrial Mastery Pathway
Noise Advanced: Noise Risk Management and Compliance (Australia)
Tier 2
Operational Overview
This course builds on the awareness you already hold. It moves from recognising noise risk to actually managing it: assessing exposure properly against Australia's binding noise standard, applying the right controls before protection, and running an audiometric testing program that catches damage before it becomes permanent.
Unlike some other physical hazards, noise in Australia has a genuine legal exposure standard, not just guidance. By the end of this course, you should be able to defend your approach to a WHS regulator, not just hand out ear defenders.

Instructional Objectives
- Interpret Australia's binding noise exposure standard and peak sound pressure limit, and know exactly when the duty to control noise and the duty to provide audiometric testing are triggered.
- Explain the equal-energy exchange rate and what it means for shift-length decisions.
- Apply the control hierarchy to noise specifically, with protection as the last resort, not the default.
- Select and justify hearing protection against a real attenuation rating, and recognise the overprotection trap.
- Design a defensible audiometric testing program aligned with the mandatory testing trigger and timing.
