Industrial Mastery Pathway
Silica Dust Advanced: Construction (MENA)
Tier 2
Operational Overview
Cutting, grinding and drilling stone, concrete and sandstone releases a hazard most workers never notice: respirable crystalline silica. It's invisible, it's common on almost every MENA construction site, and by the time symptoms show up the lung damage is already permanent.
This course gives you the knowledge to recognise silica-generating tasks, understand why the usual controls are harder to rely on in hot, arid conditions, and know exactly what protection you need and when.

Instructional Objectives
- Identify the construction tasks and materials most likely to generate respirable crystalline silica on MENA sites.
- Explain the health effects of chronic silica exposure including silicosis, COPD and lung cancer risk.
- Interpret exposure limits and monitoring data.
- Select and apply engineering controls appropriate to water-scarce, high-heat environments.
- Correctly select, fit and maintain RPE for silica-generating tasks.
- Respond appropriately when a silica exposure risk is identified on site.
