Your Personal Compass Session

A Different Kind of Course

Most courses in this pathway teach you how to manage a risk in front of you. This one asks a different question: what is your own reason for being here, and does your current working life actually align with it?

Ikigai is a Japanese concept, translated loosely as reason for being. It sits at the intersection of what you love, what you are good at, what the people around you need, and what you can sustainably be rewarded for. It is not a productivity framework. It is a way of understanding why you get out of bed in the morning, and what happens to you, over time, when that reason is unclear or absent.

A Professional who understands their own Ikigai brings a different quality of attention to everything else, including the safety of the people working alongside them.

This session is entirely private. There are no wrong answers, and nothing you enter here is assessed or shared. The only thing measured at the end is your understanding of the framework itself, not the content of your own reflection.

Instructional Objectives

  • Map Your Ikigai. Identify where your own skills, passions, and opportunities genuinely intersect.
  • Audit Your Balance. Assess how your time and energy are currently distributed across work, health, relationships and personal growth.
  • Identify Friction Points. Pinpoint where your current working life pulls against your own values.
  • Set Personal Goals. Leave with two or three realistic, self-defined health and career goals.

The Critical Logic of Safety

The Cost of Never Pausing

A site engineer with over a decade of strong technical performance quietly disengaged over a two-year period. Colleagues noted he had become mechanical in his approach, technically correct but visibly absent, and eventually left the industry entirely, citing burnout and a loss of any sense of purpose in the work.

In an exit conversation, he noted that nobody had ever asked him what he actually wanted from his career, only what the project needed from him. Organisations that build in space for this kind of reflection see measurably lower rates of exactly this pattern.
