Digital Habits and Data Security: What Changes When You Start Here
What Changes When You Start Here
Your Digital Fluency Is Genuinely a Strength
Growing up mobile-first, comfortable with social media and constantly connected, is a real advantage, not something to apologise for. But some habits that feel completely normal on a personal account need to change here, and this course explains exactly why.
New starters are specifically, deliberately targeted by phishing attempts and social engineering, precisely because they're still learning how things work internally. This isn't about being naive, it's about attackers knowing exactly who to target.
The same logic behind hierarchy and process applies here. Tight control over access and data isn't paranoia, it's a proportionate response to what a security breach in this industry can actually cost.
This course closes that gap before it ever becomes a real target.

Instructional Objectives
- Recognise the Attempt. Spot phishing and social engineering before it works.
- Understand the Control. Know why access and data are locked down far more tightly than a personal account.
- Apply Safe Habits. Handle photos, location tagging, and data safely and confidently.
The Critical Logic of Safety
A Photo, a Background, a Problem
A new starter, proud of settling into a new role, posted a photo from site to their personal social media. In the background, visible but unnoticed by them, was a partially readable document containing details the organisation had never intended to share publicly.
The photo was taken down quickly and no lasting harm resulted, but the organisation reviewed its new starter briefing after realising nobody had explicitly explained why site photos needed authorisation first.
