You have arrived at this course with an understanding of Risk Assessments. In previous modules, you learned how to identify hazards and apply the Hierarchy of Control. This course is the physical application of that theory. We treat PPE as your Safety Shield because it is the only safety measure that is uniquely yours, providing a final line of defence when site-wide measures are exhausted.
The PPE at Work Regulations require that your gear is the last resort. It must be suitable, well-maintained, and used correctly to ensure the safety of everyone on a UK construction site.
As a qualified professional, your kit is your identity on site. It shows your respect for the project, your colleagues, and your own safety. We will focus on Kit Integrity, teaching you how to spot the subtle signs of damage in a hard hat and the failure points of safety boots. This is about ensuring that your personal shield never fails when it is truly tested.

The Critical Logic of Safety
A UK worker suffered a serious eye injury when a shard of concrete splintered during work. Although they were wearing safety glasses, the lenses were scratched and pitted from being stored poorly. The structural strength of the lens had been weakened, allowing the shard to break through. This incident proves that PPE is only effective if you maintain it to a professional standard.
